There’s not much I like better than a good brew. Especially as the months get colder, it’s so comforting to come in from the frost, sling your hair back, chuck your sweats on, and curl your freezing fingers around a steaming mug of tea. I didn’t realise how much this came across on my blog, but it’s obviously quite evident, because a couple of weeks ago, the lovely people at Bluebird Tea Co. invited me along to the opening of their brand new Nottingham store!
Upon arrival, I was greeted with the warmest welcome from Krisi and Kate (if I’ve got any names wrong, please forgive me!) and given a lovely tote bag of mystery goodies and a promise to catch up with me later as the store was absolutely chocka. I obviously wasn’t the only person eager to have a nosy about! I made a beeline for the back of the shop where it looked a little less busy, met the gorgeous Jess from The Redo, and we had a little look around.
The shop was full of treats! There was a table of colourful tea cocktails which I would have been all over if I wasn’t driving, and a lady from Oozee Boozee Bakes who would have been lovely enough even without the plate of Earl Grey Brownies she was holding (and yes, you did read that right!).
It really was a tea-lover’s heaven. Krisi and Mike, Bluebird’s founders and self-proclaimed Tea Mixologists, create the seemingly endless flavours that line their shelves, whether that’s imaginative mixes unique to them or inspired twists on more classic blends, using flowers, spices, chocolate… yes, chocolate! The special edition Christmas teas looked (and smelled!) particularly fantastic, and would be perfect during the festive season for those of us who missed the mulled wine memo — such a lovely idea!
We were invited to have a look downstairs and found ourselves in our very own tea-mixing station. There was lots of pots of base tea and complementary flavours, and it was up to us to create our perfect blend to take home with us! I chose a black tea with rose petals and dried lime pieces; I haven’t had a chance to sample it properly yet, but it certainly smells amazing!
Lastly, we headed back upstairs to actually taste some of these delicious-sounding blends. The team at Bluebird were extremely generous and chilled in letting us sniff the teas to our hearts content and even sample one of the blends that took our fancy. After much deliberation, I eventually chose Elderflower Champagne, because it’s named after two of my favourite drinks! It was a perfect, delicate flavour with a hint of sweetness.
After purchasing a few select favourites and a quick chat with Mike, Krisi and Kate, we decided to call it a night. Back home, I checked out my goodie bag — along with some sample bags of Earl Grey Creme, Strawberry Lemonade and Dozy Girl, there were some Instagram-themed recipe cards, Bluebird coupons and some vegan/gluten free snacks!
Another big thank you to Mark, Krisi and the whole team at Bluebird Tea Co. for inviting me along to Nottingham’s launch ParTEA! I can’t wait to go back and find a new favourite!
