Essence Makeup Haul

You guys know I’m a sucker for budget beauty brands — from MUA to Makeup Revolution to Sleek, I’m a big, big fan. Essence is one of the few drugstore brands that I have not yet tried, and after having a nosy at their website, I knew a mini haul would be imminent. Taking refuge in Wilko’s during a downpour the other day, I of course found myself in front of their makeup counter having a good old nosy. Inevitably I surrendered to my credit card; this is what I ended up bagging for myself!

I swatched pretty much all their lipsticks with the view to buying just the one, but I couldn’t narrow it down enough and ended up with two. I bought their Longlasting Lipstick in the shade 07 Natural Beauty, and their Matt Matt Matt lipstick in 07 Purple Power, both for £2.30 a pop.

The first cites ‘intensive colour without drying them out’, while the latter boasts ‘a light creamy texture [which] unites a high-colour dispersion with a matt finish’. They both feel pretty lightweight, but the colours are lovely, the swatches are impressive, and the embossed logo on the stick is a luxurious addition.

Two essentials in my makeup bag, I feel naked without big lashes and a cat-eye. The Super Fine Eyeliner Pen was a simple choice for me as it reminded me of my current Maybelline Master Precise fave, but there were so many mascaras it took me a while to land on The False Lashes Dramatic Volume Unlimited mascara.

The mascara cost me £2.80, which is cheaper than my current MUA Eye Define mascara, so if it pulls it out the bag I’ll be really impressed. The brush is super delicate and precise, and the design kinda reminds me of an issue of Cosmo, which is always a good thing. I’ve already had a play with the eyeliner and it’s just lovely. It’s got a really thin nib, it’s not too flexible but it’s got enough give to achieve a good flick; my only issue is that it could be blacker if that makes sense!

I’m not a huge nail varnish buyer, but it’s always good to have a sturdy top coat, and when I saw Essence’s Out Of Space Stories range, I knew I wanted at least one of them. I’ll be testing out The Gel Nail Polish Top Coat soon, which I bought for £2.50. I also plumped for the shade 02 Across The Universe, for £2.00; I already have painted my toes with it and it’s all shimmery and holographic and didn’t really even need a second coat!

Have you tried any of Essence’s range?

I’ve had a play around with these since writing this post and I’m really impressed, particularly with the mascara! It makes my lashes look really long and thick. The long lasting lipstick is pretty good too, and such a cute colour! I’ll look out for your blog post!
