Summer is finally coming to an end. We can all relax now; deflate the paddling pool, put your denim shorts back in the box in the attic, and hide the sun cream away in the back of the cupboard for another year, am I right?
*cue game show buzzer* Wrong!
If I’ve learnt anything about skincare, it’s that SPF is the most important thing. Year round, we keep our bodies mostly covered with jeans and jumpers, especially here in the U.K. where temperatures rarely venture into double digits in centigrade. Our faces, on the other hand, are always exposed. If you’ve ever burnt unexpectedly as I have, you’ll know that the sun doesn’t even have to be out to take effect. Think about all the UV rays your skin is soaking up on a daily basis — if you’re not wearing sun protection, well… Ouch.
This was one of the reasons why I reached out to CyberDERM on Twitter about a possible collaboration when I saw their PR request. CyberDERM is a luxury skincare and sunscreen brand based in Canada, with a focus on creating advanced products alongside medical professionals. Their unique formulations feature the best ingredients handpicked with performance in mind, including the ‘highest zinc oxide concentrations available on the market’ [source]. They also make specialised suncare treatments for conditions such as Melasma and Hyperpigmentation, which is wonderful.
CyberDERM very kindly shipped out a personalised package to me, featuring one of their Sun Whips. The Sun Whips come in two variations, Every Morning SPF 25 and Simply Zinc SPF 30. I received the Every Morning Sun Whip, which was a great choice for my skin type as it boasts a ‘cashmere matte finish’ and claims to be ‘perfect for those with combination, oily, or acneic skin’ — bingo! After reading all the rave reviews online, I couldn’t wait to try it out for myself.
This 15% zinc oxide and 7.5% encapsulated octinoxate blend applies invisibly and smoothly to the skin. It provides just the right amount of hydration for many but pairs nicely with our H20 Hydration.
I’ve been applying my Sun Whip under my makeup for the last few days to get the feel for it, and I have to say I really like it! The formula is really silky and a lot thinner than your typical all-over suncream, and it doesn’t leave white streaky patches on your skin either. You only need a couple of small pumps to cover your face and neck, leaving a smooth and blended finish — no oiliness or sticky residue. It also smells gorgeous, which makes all the difference between bog standard sun creams and something more luxurious. Lastly, it comes beautifully packaged; the pump dispenser in particular is really elegant.
So how do I rate it? Well, very highly, obviously. The only (slight) issue for me would be the pricetag: this 50ml bottle comes in at $40.00 a pop — that’s about £31. Ordering online along with customs charges wouldn’t be worth it with my personal budget. However, it’s certainly justified expense; the quality is far, far above cheaper sun creams on the market and I’ve never really come across this type of product before, so you’re definitely getting what you pay for. I think if it was more readily available in the U.K., on the shelves in my local Tesco or Superdrug for instance, I would be inclined to pick up a bottle after enjoying this sample so much!
